How to Wash Face Correctly for Men [12-Steps to Follow]

You should stop washing your face if you aggressively rub when you wash. It’s your face, so treat it like gold. If you’re rough, you pull the skin too hard, which makes it sag, which is not the right move. That’s why, by the end of this article, you’ll know precisely how to wash face correctly so that you don’t get any more pimples or acne.

I know, and it’s clear that most men were never taught how important it is to have a beauty routine. Most of us don’t even know what one is, let alone how to wash face correctly.

I will write today about how to wash your face the right way. This is the first step you should take to achieve clear skin quickly. Do this in the morning and at night, twice a day. The surface of your face could become uneven if you wash it too frequently. This is not what we want because it makes it easier for bacteria to enter your pores and cause harm to your skin, including redness.

In a similar vein, you should wash your face right away if it gets dirty. If you work out and sweat a lot, remember that you can rewash it to remove the dirt and sweat.

Do not even think about using a soap bar to wash your face correctly. Don’t use regular soap because it will dry out your face, which is the last thing we want. Use a proper face wash, like a (aloe vera) gel foam or a paste-like consistency. These are usually fine and will only remove dirt without taking away any of your skin’s natural oils, which you want to keep. Lastly, don’t use too little of the product; use a generous amount to ensure enough to wash your entire face and neck.

I quoted some advice from the famous dermatologist for your reference below-

“Many believe that you need to only wash your face to remove makeup or when it looks dirty. In actuality, it’s recommended you wash your face twice daily,” says Jennifer Haley, a board-certified dermatologist from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Haley says that cleansing your face at night is very important, no matter what kind of skin you have or how it looks.

“Removing makeup, dirt, and grime from the day will help prepare the skin for your skin care regimen, as well as support the skin in its overnight regeneration and renewal processes,” Haley says.

Let’s look more closely at each part of this proper face-washing process to see why it’s essential and what the best ways are to wash face correctly:

1. Wash Your Hands First:

First, wash your hands. Let’s face it—your hands are dirty because you touch things when going down the stairs, inside your car, or on the bus or train to work. You never know what bacteria you have on your hands right now. So please wash your hands with soap to get them clean and ready to wash your face.

Always wash your hands before doing anything for your skin or makeup. People who wash their hands before washing their faces spread dirt around on their faces, making it harder for skin care products to do their job.

2. Properly Remove All Your Makeup First:

It’s important to start washing your face by gently removing your makeup. A mild makeup remover can help you remove makeup and prepare your face for a deep clean. This step is fundamental before bed because it lets your skin breathe and heal while you sleep.

3. Don’t Wash Your Face with Harsh Bar Soap:

The trick is to stay away from harsh bar soaps that might upset the delicate pH balance of your skin. Balm-based face cleansers are designed to nourish the skin of the face without removing its natural oils. Recognizing your skin type and choosing cleansers that work for it is critical.

My recommended best mens face wash and face cleanser are Lumin Charcoal Face Wash Men and L’Oréal Paris Men Facial Cleanser. I liked these two products for men because they have charcoal in them, which helps fight five problems caused by city dirt and oil: oily skin, shine, dirt, a sticky feeling when you touch it, dullness, and plugged pores.

4. Use lukewarm water:

When you wash your face, the water temperature is not as important as you might think. Warm water or cold weather can make your skin feel uncomfortable. Choose lukewarm water; it cleans well without washing or irritating your skin too much.

5. Exfoliate:

If you want to exfoliate, be gentle. Scrubbing too hard can damage your skin’s protected layer, even though exfoliation is good for you. Cleansers with ingredient like salicylic or glycolic acid should be used for gentle massaging with your fingers for a minute or two. These ingredients aid in removing dead skin cells, oil, and debris from the skin to leave the face radiant.

Now, let’s talk about how to exfoliate. Exfoliating should only happen two or three times a week at most. That’s because a good exfoliant has microbeads, like the ones you can see here in the product Apricus Exfoliating Facial Scrub for Men, that scrub away dead skin cells, revealing brand-new, young, clear skin. That’s why you should get this product; it makes a huge difference immediately. I like leaving mine on in the shower and using it twice weekly.

Don’t do too much: Exfoliating too much can damage your skin’s natural protection. If you use soaps with strong exfoliating ingredients daily, your skin could become hypersensitive, irritated, and break out. Keeping the frequency of exfoliation high is important for keeping your face healthy.

6. Avoid Using Unnecessary Tools:

Skip unnecessary tools and rely on the efficacy of your clean hands for washing your

face. They are effective without the risk of bacterial buildup, often found in

sponges or cleansing tools.

7. Pay attention to your neck and jaw:

Often overlooked, the neck and jawline require attention too. Gently massaging these

areas in an upward motion not only cleanse them but also stimulate circulation, promoting skin elasticity and a lifted appearance.

This massage feature will help you relax and give your face a much-needed muscle break after a long, stressful day.

8. Use a soft towel to dry:

Here’s a little trick that most guys don’t know or don’t think of:  Dry your face with a different towel than the one you use to dry your body. You shouldn’t use that towel on your face; I don’t know if you want to, but I don’t want to. Keep a clean towel in the bathroom just for your face so you don’t spread more germs to your skin.

Use a soft towel to gently pat your face instead of letting it dry. Your skin won’t dry out too much, especially around your eyes and other sensitive areas. It will stay wet.

9. Don’t wash your face frequently:

Taking care of your skin involves balance, which also applies to washing your face. While keeping your skin clean is important, washing it too frequently can strip away natural oils and disrupt its balance.

Instead of overdoing it, aim for a gentle cleansing routine. For most skin types, washing your face twice daily—morning and night—with a mild cleanser works well. If you have dry skin, reduce the frequency to maintain its natural moisture.

Ultimately, the best way to keep your skin healthy and happy is to find the right balance in your skincare practice.

12. Finish with a Toner and Moisturizer:

After cleansing, toners help restore your skin’s pH balance, and moisturizers are essential in preventing excessive dryness after washing your face. Because they provide a barrier of protection that stops moisture from leaving, they guarantee that your skin will continue supple and hydrated.

Conducting experiments: Trial and error!

Considering that everyone’s skin is different, it is vital to experiment with various methods to find the one that works best for you. When it comes to facial cleansing, it is not enough to wash your face; you must also learn about your skin’s requirements and devise a regimen that aligns with your skin’s objectives. But keep in mind that part of your mens skin care regimen should be a daily face wash to remove dead skin cells from your face’s surface.

Final Thought:

Making it a habit to wash your face and take care of your skin is the most important thing. You won’t forget to wash your face every morning and night and scrub it twice a week as you do with your teeth. You’ll enjoy your skincare routine because you’ll be able to see the results with your own eyes.

Remember that washing your face is only the first step. You can maintain healthy, bright skin with a proper skincare routine, frequent exercise, a nutritious diet, and an efficient stress management plan. You can ensure you are on the right track to getting bright and healthy skin by tailoring your routine to your specific skin wants and goals.
